OUTLOOK – Consciousness and Reality – New Theories
Therner & Loeth 2026
Since we have chosen to prioritize website development and new video material in 2026, we will not participate in The Science of Consciousness Conference *, but we would like to present one of many tangible “signs” indicating that, from different perspectives, natural science is continuing to approach the Cosmic Worldview and the X-structure. There is a growing body of new thinking and theories that reject physicalism and the materialistic worldview, and signalling a paradigm shift in our understanding of reality. Below, we provide a brief overview of Professor Maria Strømme’s research to illustrate this.
* After publishing this article, we have received information from the University of Arizona stating that the TSC Conference 2026 has been cancelled.
In this context, we would also like to remind and refer to our colleague and friend, biochemist Leif Pettersson’s groundbreaking work – entirely based on Martinus’ Cosmology – the Cosmic Worldview – which presents a unique new model, the Fundamental Energy Theory – FET, unifying the four fundamental forces of nature without contradictions and thereby fulfils the criteria for what physicists call a Theory of Everything, and his recently presented mathematical concept: the Unified Master Equation (UME): A Dimensionless Constant α = 1.5 as the Foundation for a Theory of Everything.
The text below is partly a summary of a short article by Annica Hulth published on Uppsala University’s website (Nov. 21 2025).
Consciousness is fundamental – time, space and matter arise afterwards. This is the starting point of a new theoretical model of the nature of reality launched by Maria Strømme in the scientific journal AIP Advances. In short: “consciousness first, consciousness is fundamental and primary”. In this context, we would like to mention that for a number of years we have taken part in several presentations at The Science of Consciousness Conference, where similar ideas have been introduced by scientists and researchers such as Roger Penrose, Stuart Hameroff, Dante Lauretta and others (see “Outlook” – Science of Consciousness and Reality).
Maria Strømme, professor of materials science at Uppsala University, who usually conducts research in nanotechnology, takes a big step here from the smallest to the largest – and proposes a new theory of the origin of the universe. She presents a framework in which consciousness is not considered a side effect of brain activity, but a fundamental field that underlies everything we experience – incorporating matter, space, time and life itself.
Maria Strømme emphasizes that her theory is primarily based on the assumption that consciousness comes first, and structures such as time, space and matter arise afterwards. She refers to physicists such as Einstein, Schrödinger, Heisenberg and Planck, and emphasizes that they had similar thoughts, and that she is taking forward several of the tracks they opened up.
Maria Strømme explains that for many years she has been working on a quantum mechanical model that unifies quantum physics with non-dualistic philosophy. The theory is based on the idea that consciousness is the fundamental element of reality and that each individual consciousness is part of a larger coherent field. In this model, phenomena that are today perceived as “mysterious” and inexplicable – such as thought transference or near-death experiences, etc. – can be explained as natural consequences of a common field of consciousness. Maria Strømme’s theory also clearly indicates that each individual consciousness does not end with the death of the physical body, but returns to the universal field of consciousness from which it emerged. Sheia Strømme’s article below – it is strictly written and formulated in the mathematical language of physics, but the reasoning contains parallels to several of the world’s religious and philosophical traditions. The theory and article have sparked many discussions about the border between physics and philosophy.

PDF: Universal consciousness as foundational field: A theoretical bridge between quantum physics and non-dual philosophy
The basic idea (presented by Maria Strømme et al.) that consciousness is primary, and that “everything else” (time, space, matter, etc.) is secondary, approaches the X-structure (the nature of life and reality according to the Cosmic Worldview). A very simplified comparison in a few words: If we theoretically divide the integrated and in practice indivisible fundamental X-structure into X0, X1, X2 and X3 – from this perspective X0 and X1 can be seen as the primary immaterial (X0) prerequisite and driving force (X1) for everything, the creative process takes place in the “next and secondary step” via X2 (basic energies and creative principles) resulting in X3: objective and subjective reality including what we know as space, time, matter, transformation, life-units/ individuals, etc.
Read more about the X-structure and its operational functions via the Reality-Consciousness Transformation Process – the X-RCT Process, which also provides a profound solution to what in philosophy and consciousness research is called the Hard Problem of Consciousness (and the Explanatory Gap).
